Projects - 2013
Due to the state of flux with the County and City, Friends decided to concentrate on other projects.
-- We provided 600 slip leads to Kern County Animal Control. These are given to people when they adopt a dog. We also gave these out at Supervisor Perez's spay/neuter clinics in Lamont in the spring.
-- Friends provided heavy-duty slip leads to all the KCAC Animal Care Workers in February and for all the Animal Control Officers in July.

-- We have been providing vouchers for $30 off the cost to spy/neuter dogs and $20 off the cost for cats. As of September 27, we have issued 806 vouchers for dogs and 348 for cats. We also gave out variable amount vouchers in conjunction with Supervisor Couch at the Wasco Rose Festival. These made up the difference between the vouchers Supervisor gave and what the local vet charged. We joined Supervisor Couch at the Buttonwillow Fall Festival and gave out some vouchers there.
-- Friends has been writing vouchers at the licensing clinics held by the City and County once per month in Bakersfield, usually the second Saturday. We are located with Kern Humane at these events.
-- We saw a Facebook posting in July asking about insulated dog houses. After messages back and forth, we discovered the woman asking is a volunteer at the shelter in McFarland. This is a small rural shelter with 24 kennels that are covered but all outside. Friends voted to provide 24 insulated dog houses to McFarland. On September 21, we met at the shelter and helped put the houses together along with the McFarland Police Explorers.

-- On September 28, Friends contributed $800 to a transport of 53 cats and kittens, and 15 small dogs to Cat's Cradle rescue in Canada. All these animals had adopters waiting for them.
