Azul's Story

Ozzy (short for Azul which means "blue") was found on the road in the center divider off of White Lane just laying there. The man who saw her figured she had been hit by a car, but when he drove by he noticed she lifted her leg up as if to say "help me". She was probably hit and just left there to die. Her rescuer pulled over. She lifted her head up and he had no problem getting her in the truck --- she was completely willing. He noticed she was dragging her front leg as if the whole leg was dead, so he took her home. She was cleaned up and though she was extremely malnourished, she is as sweet as can be. This happened to be on a holiday weekend (Easter) and her rescuers just had an extremely large vet bill the day before and couldn't afford to take her to an emergency hospital.
They called Kern County Animal Control and had them pick her up, but they put a foster interest in for her because they didn't want her to get put down. The shelter told them Azul needed to have her front leg amputated from a spinal injury that had occurred. Overwhelmed that they couldn't afford this procedure, her rescuers ran into a volunteer at the shelter who made the connection to Friends, which decided to fund the entire surgery.
Ozzy is doing extremely well, as if she was born on 3 legs. She is super playful and loves playing with her foster family's other dogs (contrary to the belief that pit bulls are aggressive towards other dogs) and they had her for just a couple of two weeks before getting adoption interest from a couple of their friends. One was chosen --- their friend, Nick, who feels "we were meant for each other!"
In the words of her rescuers, "Now we are just working out the final details, and all this was made possible by the Friends organization and the ongoing help and efforts of the Kern County Animal Shelter. Thank you so much for giving this amazing animal a second chance at life, and giving a person the opportunity to receive so much love and happiness. She truly is an entirely new dog from when we found her!"

Azul's Going Home!
Azul has been adopted and is headed to her forever home! Thank you all so much for your support for this pup. Because of your kindness, Azul gets to live out her life as someone's new best friend.
